Dr. Netta Maymon

Dr. Neta Maimon studies musical cognition and is currently a postdoctoral fellow studying under Prof. Roni Granot a. Maimon holds a bachelor's degree in cello performance from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and is a graduate of the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Program for Outstanding Students at Tel Aviv University. Maimon earned hermaster's degree in musicology from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, and holds a master's and PhD in cognitive psychology from Tel Aviv University. In Neurosteer, a company that develops portable EEG devices for monitoring brain electrical activity, Maimon created musical tests for the early detection of cognitive decline. These were underscored by >1000 people around the world with more than 10 clinical studies validating these tests as beneficial for early detection of Aldzheimers, Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative disorders. Her doctoral research focused on extra-auditory associations of the Western tonal system. The results of this research were published in three scientific articles, demonstrating a connection between the scale degrees and visual brightness, emotions represented by facial expressions, and the physical space. Her research has been presented at international conferences on cognitive psychology and musical cognition (Neuromusic, ICMPC, ESCOM, ESCOP). Neta teaches musical cognition, perception, and psychophysics in the School of Psychology at Tel Aviv University; she is a member of the indie band Phototaxis, and accompanies singer Dudu Tassa in his Al-Kuwaity project, which performs traditional Iraqi music with rock-electronic arrangements in concerts around the world.
